Search is on for missing Nelson County girl
Colleen Reilly, NBC12 News
Hundreds of people are still combing the woods in Nelson County today, looking for a little girl missing since Sunday. Authorities are hoping daylight will help them find 8-year-old Jackie Holden.
The search covers a 2-and-a-half mile area around the child’s home in Shipman, which is heavily surrounded by woods. Authorities say Jackie wandered away from her home on Sunday, while her mother was sleeping. The girl was nowhere to be seen when her mother woke up around 4pm.
Since then, two hundred people have been looking for her. Helicopters with infrared sensors that pick up body heat have also been called in, to help see what human eyes can’t.
“Well we’re starting to bring in some fresher crews from around the state and they’re going to bring in a helicopter from the State Police. And we’ll have two infrared teams with equipment for the helicopters to try to do some more searching,” said Deputy Kenny Brooks, Nelson County Sheriff’s Department.
Eight-year-old Jackie Holden is 4-feet tall, about 65-pounds, with reddish blond hair. She is missing two front teeth and was last seen wearing a long sleeved red, shirt with gray stretch pants and “Toy Story” sneakers.
