Virginia
Tech (17-1) led off the series with a 9-run inning in the
first game and never looked back. The Hokies out-homered
Virginia (5-4) 8-0 on the weekend. They were led by Conference
Player of the Week Chris Crum, who contributed 5 homeruns
and 13 RBI in just 8 official at-bats. The Cavaliers only
really threatened in Game 2, getting the tying run to the
plate in the top of the 7th before falling by a score of
7-4. Second-year catcher Kevin Zdancewicz turned in a solid
performance on the weekend by going 6-for-10 at the plate

Klein(19). UVA returns home looking for revenge against Mary
Washington (4-2) who took 2 of 3 in last year's series.

to Climb
The
inaugural season of the NCBA National Top 20 Poll has released
its first ever Pre-Season rankings, in which UVA is no where
to be found… at least not in the top 20. The University
of Virginia received 12 total points in the vote, tied with
Wisconsin-Madison for 35th out of 131 teams. In contrast,
several of Virginia's opponents from the fall gained recognition..

at home vs. the Hoos, represent the MAC-South. #3 NC State
lost to the Cavaliers 9-2 in the semi-finals of the ACC Tournament.
UVA also faced #17 UNC-Charlotte (lost, 7-2) and the top
un-ranked team UNC (beat twice, including a 10-9 victory
in the Championship Game). Virginia finished out against
#8 Maryland, sweeping a double-header at Burley Field. #1
Colorado St., 2-time defending National Champion and 6-time
World Series qualifier since the baseball program was dropped
from NCAA Division-I and taken up as a club sport, received
12 of the 14 first place votes.
