General Information:
The Virginia Fencing Club is a competitive, co-ed club sport team that participates in varsity-level tournaments all over the country. Interested? No experience necessary: we teach you everything you need to know! Dues cover most expenses including tournament costs (hotel, travel, and tournament fees) and allow each club member access to our fully stocked armory. Fencers can borrow all necessary practice and tournament equipment from the armory, including whites, electric gear, masks and weapons.
Tournament Opportunities:
Our club participates formally in intercollegiate tournaments and informally in many United States Fencing Association (USFA) events. Tournament participation is never mandatory; however, even the newest beginners will have opportunities to compete if they want to. Club dues cover most tournament expenses, including hotel stays, tournament fees, and travel costs. Our most exciting tournament opportunity for new fencers is the Temple Open, held over a weekend in Philadelphia, PA. Fencers of all skill levels participate in this tournament, so it is great for new fencers! (At Temple, each new fencer will have another club member with him or her while fencing, for coaching and support on the strip.) We have also begun the tradition of hosting our own tournament specifically for new fencers each fall.
