Hey Virginia Fencing!
I hope you all had a relaxing break and that you are enjoying your new classes.
First of all I would like to thank those of you who attended Hell Week this winter. You all did an amazing job and I am so proud of the dedication and determination this team constantly shows.
We had our Club Sports meeting for the semester and unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on what you prefer) Monday and Wednesday practices will still be held from 9:15-11:15pm as we must share the space with volleyball. However Friday practices will be held from 6:30-8:30pm so hopefully everyone will be able to work some fencing into their schedules.
As you may know already this semester is starting out very busy. In the next month or so we have 2 women’s tournaments (Sweet Briar Invitational, NIWFA Champs), two men’s tournaments (MACFA II, MACFA Champs), and one co-ed tournament (SAC). Check out your inboxes or the calendar for dates and e-mail Nick or me asap if you want to attend. Fence offs will occur during the first few practices of the semester, so please be there!
As always, if you have any suggestions, concerns, or even just want to tell me something you especially like please feel free to e-mail me or talk to me during practice anytime. To those of you who have already given me feedback: thank you so much, it was very helpful and informative.
Thanks again for being such an incredible group of people. =)

Welcome back; I hope you have all had a good summer. This year we have some great opportunities to continue making a name for ourselves. Practices will be slightly different as we plan on trying some new things. Most importantly, we will be making the practice schedule very organized; the first few weeks of this practice schedule will be posted soon. Also, we have the gym from 6:30 to 8:30 but we are going to have everyone meet at 6:00 for some sort of warm up activity or games outside on ole nameless field (right next to mem gym). This will allow us to warm up without using our precious and hard fought for gym time, leaving most of that time for actual fencing stuff. If you have any ideas or suggestions about ways to practice different aspects of fencing or activities you would like to do for warm-up (such as ultimate frisbee), please feel free to email Jessica or me.
For the newbies this year, we will be having slightly shorter practices at the beginning of the season. Though it might not seem like it at first, fencing is a very intense sport and it will take some time for your body to adapt to it. Two hour long practices right off the bat have in the past just resulted in very sore and rather disheartened newbies, so for the first few we’re going to hold shorter practices.
For our first social event, I propose that we have a Snakes On A Plane Night next Friday after practice. Having already seen this movie I can say that it is time well spent, especially with a crowd like the fencing team.
I look forward to an awesome year of fencing with all of you. If you have any questions or concerns about anything please let me know.
