Bridging the Gap

Be a mentor, tutor, and friend. Make an enduring impact on the life of a child that needs your help.
We seek to improve refugee children's traumatized mental health through our mentoring services, to improve their English learning process through our tutoring services, and by doing so, put them on a path to greater social and academic success.
What do volunteers do?
Bridging the Gap volunteers are paired with a mentees who are refugee children resettled in Charlottesville. Volunteers spend time with their mentees either at their home, at UVa or anywhere else and engage in activities with mentees ranging from playing sports and games, helping with homework, driving to soccer practice, visiting museums, and much more! The volunteer gets to plan the activity, and most of the time multiple volunteers will plan activities together.
When?
Volunteers coordinate with their mentees and select a time to spend together; generally after school gets out on weekdays. Volunteers are expected to spend 3hours/week with their mentee.
