Charlottesville City Parks
Work varies based upon location, but may include planting and reforestation, checking on and maintaining recently planted saplings, removal of invasive species, spreading playground mulch, painting, and trash clean up. No skills or prior experience are necessary; we'll teach you everything you need to know on site. If you enjoy being outdoors and want to help make Charlottesville's Parks more accessible to the public, this is the program for you! Doing service in a variety of parks around the city also provides a change of scenery from Grounds, and allows volunteers to discover new places in the community which they might not otherwise encounter. The required time commitment is fairly low: workdays are the first and third Saturdays of each month for approximately three hours in the morning, with carpools to the work site provided.

Rivanna Trails
Absolutely no experience is necessary. Volunteers will learn to use such tools as mattocks, fire rakes, hoes, etc to build trails. Volunteers should be willing to get muddy and work in all climates, such as snow :) Keep in mind that enthusiasm for nature/ community service will be more necessary than muscle.
