Responsibilities

Above all, a Day Care volunteer is a positive role model for children in local day care centers. Children learn by modeling themselves after what they see and hear. The volunteer plays an important role in this learning process. Many times the teachers call on the Day Care volunteer for assistance with an activity. At other times, the volunteers are encouraged to join in the fun of free play while supervising the children. Once you have been volunteering at the day care center for a while, you will be recognized as a consistent figure in the children's lives and will have the opportunity to assume greater responsibility within the center. This is a chance to try an activity of your own with the children... Remember, you are in a creative position with a captive audience!

A volunteer usually spends between two and four hours per week at the Day Care Center. This program is a semester long commitment. Some car pools are available.
