What We're Doing

Homework Helpers
Students travel to the homes of migrant families and help kids with homework, basic or academic English and study skills. Some volunteers will work with parents on basic English or other learning opportunities, like studying for the citizenship test.

Hispanic Family Night
Students travel to a local elementary school to work in a group setting with several migrant families. Similar to Homework Helpers, students will help kids with homework, basic or academic English and study skills. Other students will work with the parents on English or other learning opportunities. Although it is more of a group environment, tutoring is still usually one-on-one.

Adult Tutoring
Students travel as a group to local orchards to tutor migrant workers in English. With the help of a Migrant Education teacher, the volunteers will hold group lessons and one-on-one tutoring with the migrant workers. Tutoring often takes place in an outdoor, rustic setting. The Adult Tutoring Program runs from September to the end of October or Mid-November. Spring Valley camp will often run through late November. There is no Adult Tutoring in the spring.
