PLAY: After School Activities
PLAY: After School Activities

Mission Statement

PLAY is a brand new program at Madison House that serves community centers and schools in Charlottesville and the surrounding community with mentors and role models that work with students who need them most in an after-school environment.

The Missions at Each Site

Boys and Girls Club
Boys and Girls Club is an after-school program for kids who especially need mentors. Volunteers help kids with their homework, play games, sports, and do crafts and other activities with them. We have three volunteering sites at this age group: Southwood Boys and Girls Club (elementary school), Buford Boys and Girls Club (mostly elementary school, some middle school children), and Jack Jouett Boys and Girls Club (Middle School 6th through 8th grade).

Field School
A brand-new school in the beautiful fields of Crozet for boys! Assist small groups of kids with a variety of sports and after school activities. Male volunteers and volunteers with CARS are strongly encouraged to sign-up!

Hope Center
An after school program for underprivileged youth near the UVA community. Volunteers will play with elementary aged kids in the center's gym facility, help with snack time, and assist with homework. The center is located within walking distance from Grounds!

Southwood Community Outreach
This program is a way to provide dedicated academic support and guidance to the local Latino/Hispanic community in Charlottesville. UVA students will tutor either an elementary- or middle-school-aged kid from Southwood. Additionally, there will be monthly activities that involve the families and the whole Southwood community.
