We commend you on your decision to file a case with the University Mediation Services (UMS)!
We understand the nature of conflict and hope to assist you in any way we can. Mediation is a mature and effective way of resolving conflict, one which we trust you will find to be beneficial overall. Ensuring your confidentiality throughout the process is important to us, so please read the following carefully to find out how to file a case with UMS.
In order to file a case with UMS, you will need to fill out our Intake form. Upon receipt of this form, our Director of Cases will contact both parties to set up a time for mediation with two (2) of our trained mediators. Usually, this Intake process takes no more than two (2) business days. You do NOT have to be one of the disputing parties to file a case; however, we strongly encourage disputants to be responsible for contacting UMS.
You may initiate this process in the following ways:
1) Fill out the Online Intake Form.
2) Call us! To best keep your identity and conflict confidential, you may call us to speak with one of our mediators who will gather the necessary information for our Intake form.
3) Visit us! Our door is always open, and you may fill out our Intake form in person at your convenience.
4) E-mail us! You may e-mail UMS at mediate@virginia.edu. Please understand the risks that e-mail entails, but know that we will do our best to ensure your confidentiality from our end!
