Join us!
Thank you for your interest in University Mediation Services! We are an organization of about 25 members, and we typically admit 8-12 new members each year. Every member undertakes mediation training at the beginning of the spring semester following admission, after which he or she is eligible to mediate any case brought to our office. UMS mediators may also have the opportunity to co-mediate certain cases brought to the Community Mediation Center of Charlottesville alongside a certified mediator from that office.
UMS members are also educators. Part of our organization's mission is to teach the University community about the core principles of mediation and how they may be practiced in the professional world and in everyday life. As educators, members participate in presentations, workshops, advertising, and service projects to advance the resources UMS has to offer.
As a group, we also host social events so members can get to know one other and take a break from the pressures of classes and work. We have a recognition dinner each year to congratulate new members and thank our community sponsors, and we also try to organize informal socials or service projects each semester.
So if you have a knack for solving conflict, join UMS! It will give you the chance to strengthen your skills and share them with the community, now and in the future, in a significant and practical way.
If you are interested in joining, just refer to this page for updates on important dates and events. You can also be added to our mailing list by e-mailing the list moderator.
