Greetings!

Welcome to the Organization of Young Filipino Americans' website! We are here to heighten the awareness of Filipino and Filipino-American History within the University of Virginia, the Charlottesville community, and the Internet! Feel free to browse around for more information about our organization.

Why did you want the position you currently hold?
  • There are so many people suffering, living in poverty, injustice, and are experiencing many social inequalities. Helping out others is something that has always been very important to me. OYFA Community is all about helping people, those in the Philippines and those in the UVA-Charlottesville community. One of my favorite quotes that motivates me to do this is by Barbara de Angelis: "Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver." Knowing that I make a huge difference in the lives of others makes my life more fulfilling, more meaningful.
If you could have any other position in OYFA at this very moment, what would it be and why?
  • Recording Secretary! Haha I'm a little jealous of Joyce for decorating and getting to play around with emails. ;P
What does it means to you to be Filipino?
  • Being selfless, putting others before myself and making sacrifices out of love for those I love.
If you had three wishes, what would they be?
  1. More selflessness in the world. If people were more helpful and showed love to one another, then there wouldn't be so much fighting and inequality.
  2. More support for and awareness of the Overseas Filipino Workers. Despite the difficulties of transitioning to different cultures and societies, sometimes in the most dangerous of places, their undying love for their families back home shines brightly. They are what makes the Philippines more prosperous, at a huge cost to themselves.
  3. Silence. If people were silent every now and then, they would be able to think clearly and make better decisions, hear their own voices from within, and not be bombarded with misleading messages.
I like to be different - just like everyone else! ;P
"I'm not interested in preserving the status quo; I want to overthrow it." ~Niccolò Machiavelli
