It Shook Me Too
Location: Chemistry Lobby & Auditorium
Date: November 13, 2006
Time: 06:30 pm - 08:00 pm

A Pakistan Earthquake Relief Benefit Concert to raise money for the victims of the earthquake in Pakistan. A total of $11,000+ was collected from the student movement from various sources that included this benefit concert ($2,000), T-shirt sales ($500), donations boxes ($5,000), mosque/church donations ($2,000), silent auction ($1,500) and other generous donations from academic departments. All proceeds were donated directly to two prominent earthquake relief organizations working at the epicenter of the quake: The Citizens Foundation and The Edhi Foundation.

The concert along was a collaboration with more than 10 prominent student groups such as Mahogany, African Dance & Drumming, Indian Students Association, Salsa Club, Sharara, Arabs Students Association and so on and thereby generating a wide awareness of the presence of Pakistan at UVa as well as spread the awareness of the tragedy, which we hope Americans and the rest of the world won’t soon forget.

The relief effort for this earthquake had a two-fold effect: creating awareness for a global humanitarian cause as well as recognizing affected local Charlottesville Pakistani residents whose families had been directly inflicted by such a natural disaster. All this was done by an organization which had no active members and came into existence for this cause.

Co-sponsored by the International Residential College (IRC) and organized by Pakistani Students League (PSL)
