Director

KaeRenae Mitchell

Katherine (KaeRenae) Mitchell has been involved in choral conducting for over 25 years. Her association with the Women's Chorus at the University of Virginia has been long and extensive. She is an alumna of the Chorus, and also served as accompanist, Assistant Director, and Director. Under her leadership as Director, the University of Virginia Women's Chorus was chosen to participate in the American Choral Director's Association Convention in 1988 and recorded its first album in 1983. It was also during this time that the Chorus began its long tradition of singing at the National Cathedral. In 1994, Elizabeth Noseworthy and Wynne Krause re-established the Chorus as a Contracted Independent Organization and KaeRenae was asked to be their musical director. KaeRenae worked with them for one year and "retired" to raise her three small children and continue in the position of Director of Music at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church. In addition to her work with the Chorus, she has participated in workshops given by Alice Parker, Dale Warland, Frauke Haasemann, Otto Werner Mueller, Robert Harris, Brian Wren, Brian Tate, Ysaye Barnwell, and William Allaudin Mathieu. Recently she has been studying two modalities of music and healing. It is an honor to be directing these fine women again!\
